Guitariste passionné d'improvisation, Jacques Pellen est le fondateur du concept de la Celtic Procession, à la fois formation à géométrie variable et véritable laboratoire de recherche musicale pour une « esthétique jazz sous influence bretonne ».... «L'un des plus formidables guitaristes du jazz européen.» (jazzman)
Il est né à Brest en 1957 et y commence l'étude de la guitare classique à l'âge de 12 ans.

Très vite séduit par une esthétique jazz incarnée par Jan Garbarek, John Mac Laughlin, Pat Metheny, Bill Evans, Keith Jarret, il a l'oreille également tournée vers le folk et nourrit une passion pour les musiciens du 20ème siècle tels Olivier Messiaen et Arnold Schoenberg mais aussi pour les musiques celtiques.
Jacques Pellen fait partie des musiciens qui ont le plus contribué a l'évolution de la musique en Bretagne, essentiellement en fondant dans les années 80 le collectif « CELTIC PROCESSION ».

Déjà 15 années que ce laboratoire permanent à géométrie variable composé de personnalités du jazz européen et de la musique bretonne, expérimente sur les scènes internationales ou en studio

Jacques Pellen, famous breton guitarist and composer, has his roots firmly planted in both traditional breton music and jazz.
He accompanied the greatest names and legends of the history of breton music (the Molard brothers, Erik Marchand, Jean-Michel Veillon, Gwerz, Annie Ebrel, Dan Ar Braz...the list is too big to mention) and he is especially at the origin of the renewal of the tradition and the creative scene which inspired so many bands and musicians even beyond the frontiers of Brittany.
At the same time, Jacques didn't abandon the jazz scene as he he played and recorded with several geniuses such as Kenny Wheeler, Paolo Fresu, Didier Lockwood, Michael Brecker, The Boclé bros. John Surman, Karim Ziad, Riccardo Del Fra, Peter Gritz...
Jacques has a very distinctive and unique guitar playing style on both 6 and 12 strings acoustic guitar. He uses a very personal finger picking technique and uses complex rhythms which add fabulous freshness, inventivity and musicality to any music he plays. (irish, scottish, breton, jazz)
He has already made 7 solo albums and partipated on dozens of albums in the last few years.

Jacques' new project is the "Thali Gang" a clever mixture of breton music and jazz with a strong indian feeling.
the word "Thali" has got loads of different meanings.
first of all it's the seaweed on the west coast of Brittany where Jacques lives but also it is the various plates you get in a typical indian dinner . But in Greek it also means flowering which a good description of the colours of Jacques' music
