TRIO DONAL LUNNY-PADRAIG RYNNE-SYLVAIN BAROU
Dónal LUNNY: bouzouki, guitar
Pádraig RYNNE: concertina
Sylvain BAROU: flutes, uilleann-pipes
These three respected musicians have one thing in common, in that each of them have succeeded in taking their chosen instruments and music to places never heard before.
Dónal Lunny, founding member of Planxty, the Bothy Band and Moving Hearts needs very little introduction. Considered to be one of the more influential people in the renaissance of Irish music in the last half century, Donal Lunny has been playing Irish music for most of that time. He has been producing albums of Irish musicians and singers since the '70s and has written music for many films and theatre productions.
His music has brought him to important work outside of Irish music collaborating and producing albums for very famous bands from Japan to the USA.
Dónal received an Honorary Doctorate in Music from Trinity College in '08, and is a member of Aosdána.
Pádraig Rynne is regarded as one of the finest concertina players in Irish music today being described by The Irish alphabet stew as "one of the freshest sounds in Irish music".
Born in County Clare, Pádraig grew up in a house steeped in Traditional Irish Music. In his early years Pádraig won five all Ireland titles as well as three Oireachtas titles. By the age of seventeen Pádraig had already toured the U.S.A, Canada, Ireland and Australia as well as having recorded an album with the young band "Turas". As well as two solo albums to his credit, Pádraig is a founding member of recently acclaimed Guidewire’s, which was founded in 2008.
Fellow Guidewire’s member Sylvain is seen as one of the most exciting flute players of his generation. As well as being a noted exponent of the music of his native Brittany, Sylvain has succeed in developing as an Irish traditional musician as well as other traditions including Greece, Turkey Persia and that of India.
